Debbie Nguyen (10): Emotions in Movements?
All forms of art allow people to express their feelings and emotion, but unlike singers, photographers, and artist, dancers communicate their emotion through their creative movements. Debbie Nguyen (10) first started dancing at 7 years old due to Kpop groups like super junior and girls generation with their synchronized dance moves. Debbie states, “Instead of going home doing homework, I spent most of my time watching and learning Kpop dances off on Youtube.”
When Debbie first started dancing, she would only dance in front of her family. But over the years, dancing had allowed her to become more confident and be able to dance around other people. In her freshman year, her dance class allowed her to be able to express her movements without being judged. Being in that dance studio let her forget about all her stress and focus on dancing around other people with the same passion. Her first experience of dancing on a stage was her 4th grade talent show. After that Debbie has performed at her church, BOTS, homecoming assembly, school dance showcases, and other talent shows. She goes on to say, “Being on stage does not make me nervous at all. I perform as if i’m just practicing it, but in front of people.”
Through the years of dancing and performing on stage, Debbie has gained confidence and learned to be humble. She shares, “No matter how good you are, you can’t always be in the spotlight. Always allow other people to be in the spotlight as well.” Although she isn't quite sure if she wants to make a career out of being a professional dancer, she will always purse dancing as a hobby.
